Common Types of Attacks on Computer and Internet Security
Without security measures and controls in place, your data might be subjected to an attack. Some attacks are passive, meaning information is monitored; others are active, meaning the information is altered with intent to corrupt or destroy the data or the network itself.
Your networks and data are vulnerable to any of the following types of attacks if you do not have a security plan in place.
Eavesdropping
In general, the majority of network communications occur in an unsecured or "cleartext" format, which allows an attacker who has gained access to data paths in your network to "listen in" or interpret (read) the traffic. When an attacker is eavesdropping on your communications, it is referred to as sniffing or snooping. The ability of an eavesdropper to monitor the network is generally the biggest security problem that administrators face in an enterprise. Without strong encryption services that are based on cryptography, your data can be read by others as it traverses the network.
Data Modification
After an attacker has read your data, the next logical step is to alter it. An attacker can modify the data in the packet without the knowledge of the sender or receiver. Even if you do not require confidentiality for all communications, you do not want any of your messages to be modified in transit. For example, if you are exchanging purchase requisitions, you do not want the items, amounts, or billing information to be modified.
Identity Spoofing (IP Address Spoofing)
Most networks and operating systems use the IP address of a computer to identify a valid entity. In certain cases, it is possible for an IP address to be falsely assumed— identity spoofing. An attacker might also use special programs to construct IP packets that appear to originate from valid addresses inside the corporate intranet.
After gaining access to the network with a valid IP address, the attacker can modify, reroute, or delete your data. The attacker can also conduct other types of attacks, as described in the following sections.
Password-Based Attacks
A common denominator of most operating system and network security plans is password-based access control. This means your access rights to a computer and network resources are determined by who you are, that is, your user name and your password.
Older applications do not always protect identity information as it is passed through the network for validation. This might allow an eavesdropper to gain access to the network by posing as a valid user.
When an attacker finds a valid user account, the attacker has the same rights as the real user. Therefore, if the user has administrator-level rights, the attacker also can create accounts for subsequent access at a later time.
After gaining access to your network with a valid account, an attacker can do any of the following:
-
Obtain lists of valid user and computer names and network information.
-
Modify server and network configurations, including access controls and routing tables.
-
Modify, reroute, or delete your data.
Denial-of-Service Attack
Unlike a password-based attack, the denial-of-service attack prevents normal use of your computer or network by valid users.
After gaining access to your network, the attacker can do any of the following:
-
Randomize the attention of your internal Information Systems staff so that they do not see the intrusion immediately, which allows the attacker to make more attacks during the diversion.
-
Send invalid data to applications or network services, which causes abnormal termination or behavior of the applications or services.
-
Flood a computer or the entire network with traffic until a shutdown occurs because of the overload.
-
Block traffic, which results in a loss of access to network resources by authorized users.
Man-in-the-Middle Attack
As the name indicates, a man-in-the-middle attack occurs when someone between you and the person with whom you are communicating is actively monitoring, capturing, and controlling your communication transparently. For example, the attacker can re-route a data exchange. When computers are communicating at low levels of the network layer, the computers might not be able to determine with whom they are exchanging data.
Man-in-the-middle attacks are like someone assuming your identity in order to read your message. The person on the other end might believe it is you because the attacker might be actively replying as you to keep the exchange going and gain more information. This attack is capable of the same damage as an application-layer attack, described later in this section.
Sniffer Attack
A sniffer is an application or device that can read, monitor, and capture network data exchanges and read network packets. If the packets are not encrypted, a sniffer provides a full view of the data inside the packet. Even encapsulated (tunneled) packets can be broken open and read unless they are encrypted and the attacker does not have access to the key.
Using a sniffer, an attacker can do any of the following:
-
Analyze your network and gain information to eventually cause your network to crash or to become corrupted.
-
Read your communications.
Application-Layer Attack
An application-layer attack targets application servers by deliberately causing a fault in a server's operating system or applications. This results in the attacker gaining the ability to bypass normal access controls. The attacker takes advantage of this situation, gaining control of your application, system, or network, and can do any of the following:
-
Read, add, delete, or modify your data or operating system.
-
Introduce a virus program that uses your computers and software applications to copy viruses throughout your network.
-
Introduce a sniffer program to analyze your network and gain information that can eventually be used to crash or to corrupt your systems and network.
-
Abnormally terminate your data applications or operating systems.
-
Disable other security controls to enable future attacks.
Source: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc959354.aspx
The bottom line in this issue is that, you would not let others bypass or put your security into vulnerability or else intruders would "fiesta" on your data and information which are supposedly be kept private and confidential. Intrusion is UNETHICAL, yet oftentimes, it is us who allowed them to gain access to our systems because of NEGLECT and IRRESPONSIBILITY.

TYPES of Viruses
Meet and Greet :-)
Don't tell them that my source is: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/different-types-of-computer-viruses.html
Types of Viruses
There are Different Types of Computer Viruses could be classified in (origin, techniques, types of files they infect, where they hide, the kind of damage they cause, the type of operating system or platform they attack) etc.
- Computer Virus is a kind of malicious software written intentionally to enter a computer without the user's permission or knowledge, with an ability to replicate itself, thus continuing to spread. Some viruses do little but replicate others can cause severe harm or adversely affect program and performance of the system.
Most common types of viruses are mentioned below:
Resident Viruses
This type of virus is a permanent which dwells in the RAM memory. From there it can overcome and interrupt all of the operations executed by the system: corrupting files and programs that are opened, closed, copied, renamed etc.
Direct Action Viruses
The main purpose of this virus is to replicate and take action when it is executed. When a specific condition is met, the virus will go into action and infect files in the directory or folder that it is in and in directories that are specified in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file PATH. This batch file is always located in the root directory of the hard disk and carries out certain operations when the computer is booted.
Overwrite Viruses
Virus of this kind is characterized by the fact that it deletes the information contained in the files that it infects, rendering them partially or totally useless once they have been infected.
Boot Virus
This type of virus affects the boot sector of a floppy or hard disk. This is a crucial part of a disk, in which information on the disk itself is stored together with a program that makes it possible to boot (start) the computer from the disk.
Macro Virus
Macro viruses infect files that are created using certain applications or programs that contain macros. These mini-programs make it possible to automate series of operations so that they are performed as a single action, thereby saving the user from having to carry them out one by one.
Directory Virus
Directory viruses change the paths that indicate the location of a file. By executing a program (file with the extension .EXE or .COM) which has been infected by a virus, you are unknowingly running the virus program, while the original file and program have been previously moved by the virus.
Polymorphic Virus
Polymorphic viruses encrypt or encode themselves in a different way (using different algorithms and encryption keys) every time they infect a system.
File Infectors
This type of virus infects programs or executable files (files with an .EXE or .COM extension). When one of these programs is run, directly or indirectly, the virus is activated, producing the damaging effects it is programmed to carry out. The majority of existing viruses belong to this category, and can be classified depending on the actions that they carry out.
Companion Viruses
Companion viruses can be considered file infector viruses like resident or direct action types. They are known as companion viruses because once they get into the system they "accompany" the other files that already exist. In other words, in order to carry out their infection routines, companion viruses can wait in memory until a program is run (resident viruses) or act immediately by making copies of themselves (direct action viruses).
FAT Virus
The file allocation table or FAT is the part of a disk used to connect information and is a vital part of the normal functioning of the computer.
This type of virus attack can be especially dangerous, by preventing access to certain sections of the disk where important files are stored. Damage caused can result in information losses from individual files or even entire directories.
Worms
A worm is a program very similar to a virus; it has the ability to self-replicate, and can lead to negative effects on your system and most importantly they are detected and eliminated by antiviruses.
Trojans or Trojan Horses
Another unsavory breed of malicious code are Trojans or Trojan horses, which unlike viruses do not reproduce by infecting other files, nor do they self-replicate like worms.
Logic Bombs
They are not considered viruses because they do not replicate. They are not even programs in their own right but rather camouflaged segments of other programs.
You can protect yourself against viruses with a few simple steps:
- If you are truly worried about traditional (as opposed to e-mail) viruses, you should be running a more secure operating system like UNIX. You never hear about viruses on these operating systems because the security features keep viruses (and unwanted human visitors) away from your hard disk.
- If you are using an unsecured operating system, then buying virus protection seoftware is a nice safeguard.
- If you simply avoid programs from unknown sources (like the Internet), and instead stick with commercial software purchased on CDs, you eliminate almost all of the risk from traditional viruses.
- You should make sure that Macro Virus Protection is enabled in all Microsoft applications, and you should NEVER run macros in a document unless you know what they do. There is seldom a good reason to add macros to a document, so avoiding all macros is a great policy.
- You should never double-click on an e-mail attachment that contains an executable. Attachments that come in as Word files (.DOC), spreadsheets (.XLS), images (.GIF), etc., are data files and they can do no damage (noting the macro virus problem in Word and Excel documents mentioned above). However, some viruses can now come in through .JPG graphic file attachments. A file with an extension like EXE, COM or VBS is an executable, and an executable can do any sort of damage it wants. Once you run it, you have given it permission to do anything on your machine. The only defense is never to run executables that arrive via e-mail.
Open the Options dialog from the Tools menu in
Microsoft Word and make sure that Macro Virus Protection is enabled. Newer versions of Word allow you to customize
the level of macro protection you use.

Would and Could I consider myself a "PROFESSIONAL" after I Graduate?
A Definition of PROFESSION from Microsoft Encarta:
- occupation requiring extensive education: an occupation that requires extensive education or specialized training
Definitions of PREFESSIONAL from Microsoft Encarta:
1. of profession: relating to or belonging to a profession
professional people
2. following occupation as paid job: engaged in an occupation as a paid job rather than as a hobby
professional tennis player
3. businesslike: conforming to the standards of skill, competence, or character normally expected of a properly qualified and experienced person in a work environment
professional attitude
4. very competent: showing a high degree of skill or competence
did a very professional job
From the definitions above, being a professional connotes a well-mannered individual with conduct and good attitude toward his duties/responsibilities as he might be paid for what he is doing (2nd definition); belonging to a group of people who are also "professional" (1st definition); proper mannered, competent and experienced (3rd definition); and exemplary in whatever he does because of a high level of skills [talent, too] ensuring a job to be very well done.
And now, for the most coveted question: C/Would I consider myself a professional when I graduate?
The answer obviously lies on my own decision. The choice is on me if I would choose to utilize my years of education and training on the bright side to make a better community in the light of Information Technology.
I might also use my knowledge to improve and put my self on the top in the expense of others' rights, privileges or life...Technology is very powerful. It can bring life but it can also bring destruction.
And, as an IT practitioner very soon, I'd rather choose to be PROFESSIONAL than to be the other way around. I could still be considered a professional no matter what my future choices and actions are - no matter if I could hurt or jeopardize others' lives and make myself on top; but I'd rather choose to be the hardworking and admired for exemplary achievements and contributions that could benefit the community surrounding me.
Doing that, I am definite that I am a professional.

Whirlwind
Mar Roxas suddenly backs off from running for the Presidential office to give way to Noynoy Aquino...The latter's "decision" to run for Presidency was "due" to the "public demand" and the promise that he sworn to his mother (Pres. Cory Aquino) to continue his parents' advocacy for the Filipino.
A part of me says "Was he pushed into a situation where he was forced to do because of campaigns by people (follwers slash danatic)?" My friends believe that "bugso lang yan ng publisidad ng pagkamatay ng kanilang ina". But I also respect a promise laid by an obedient son to a mother. (Tsk)
Well, I was just sad for Mar Roxas's backing out from the race...I think he already had apent large amount and effort only to know he's not running anymore. But whatever the decision of their party, I just pray that the people will only choose the best opbjectively and not subjectively.

Slumdog Millionaire...when i saw the reaction on Noah's face, i knew it was so damn good movie

(from wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Set in 2006, the film opens with a police inspector (Irrfan Khan) in Mumbai, India, interrogating and torturing Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), a former street child from the Dharavi slums. In the opening scene, a title card is presented: "Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 million rupees. How did he do it? A) He cheated, B) He's lucky, C) He's a genius, D) It is written (which could mean either the show is predetermined by destiny or that the show is scripted)." At the end of the film, the answer is given. Jamal is a contestant on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (Kaun Banega Crorepati) hosted by Prem Kumar (Anil Kapoor) in which he was on the show and won 5,000,000 rupees. Jamal has made it to the final question, scheduled for the next day, but the police are now accusing him of cheating, because the other possibilities, that he has a vast knowledge, or that he is very lucky, both seem unlikely.
Jamal then explains that, while at least the question about Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was very simple, he knew the answers of most questions by chance, because of things that happened in his life. This is conveyed in a series of flashbacks documenting the particulars of his childhood. This includes scenes of him obtaining Bachchan's autograph, the death of his mother during the Hindu anti-Muslim violence, rekindling the memory of the 1993 anti-Muslim attacks in Mumbai by Hindu nationalists in the slums,[7] and how he and his brother Salim befriend Latika (Freida Pinto) (he refers to Salim and himself as Athos and Porthos, and Latika as the third Musketeer.)
The children are eventually discovered by Maman (Ankur Vikal) while they live in the trash heaps. Maman is a gangster (a fact they do not actually know at the time they meet him) who "collects" street children so that he can ultimately train them to beg for money. Salim is groomed to become a part of Maman’s operation and is asked to bring Jamal to Maman in order to be blinded (which would improve his income potential as a singing beggar). Salim rebels against Maman to protect his brother, and the three children try to escape, but only Salim and Jamal are successful as Salim purposely lets go of Latika's hand as she tries to board a train they are hopping while trying to escape. Latika is re-captured by Maman's organization and raised as a culturally talented prostitute whose virginity will fetch a high price.
The brothers eke out a living, traveling on top of trains, selling goods, pretending to be tour guides at the Taj Mahal, and picking pockets. Jamal eventually insists that they return to Mumbai since he wishes to locate Latika. When he finds her working as a dancer in a brothel, the brothers attempt to rescue her, but Maman intrudes, and in the resulting conflict Salim draws a gun and kills Maman. Salim then uses the fact that he killed Maman to obtain a job with Javed (Mahesh Manjrekar), a rival crime lord. Salim claims Latika as his own and when Jamal protests, Salim threatens to kill him and Latika intervenes, accepting her fate with Salim and breaking Jamal's heart.
Years later, Jamal has a position as a "chai-wallah" (a boy or young man who serves tea) at a call centre. When he is asked to cover for a co-worker for a couple of minutes, he searches the database for Salim and Latika. He gets in touch with Salim, who has become a high-ranking lieutenant in Javed’s organization. Jamal confronts a regretful Salim on tense terms. Salim invites Jamal to live with him and, after following Salim to Javed's house, he sees Latika living there. He talks his way in as the new dishwasher and tries to convince Latika to leave. She rebuffs his advances, but he promises to be at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station every day at five p.m. for her. She tries to discourage him, but on the first day that Jamal waits there, Latika attempts to rendezvous with him, but is recaptured by Salim and Javed's men. One of the men then slashes her cheek with a knife, scarring her as Salim drives off, leaving Jamal with the onlooking crowd.

Jamal again loses contact with Latika when Javed moves to another house. In another attempt to find Latika, Jamal tries out for the popular game show because he knows that she will be watching. He makes it to the final question, despite the hostile attitude of the host who feeds Jamal a wrong answer during a break. At the end of the show, Jamal has one question left to win two crore, or 20 million rupees (£281,301, $388,275 U.S.) and is taken into police custody, where he is tortured as the police attempt to learn how Jamal, a simple "slumdog," could know the answers to so many questions. After Jamal tells his whole story, explaining how his life experiences coincidentally enabled him to know the answer to each question, the police inspector calls Jamal's explanation "bizarrely plausible" and, knowing he's not in it for the money, allows him to return to the show for the final question.
At Javed's safehouse, Latika watches the news coverage of Jamal's miraculous run on the show. Salim gives Latika his phone and the keys to his car. He urges her to run away and to "forgive him for what he has done". When Jamal uses his Phone-A-Friend lifeline to call Salim, Latika answers his phone and they reconnect. She does not know the answer to the final question either but, believing that "it is written", she tells Jamal in unsubtitled Hindi, "I'm yours" right before the phone connection is cut. Jamal guesses the correct answer (Aramis) to the question of the one Musketeer whose name they never learned, and wins the grand prize. Simultaneously, Salim is discovered to have helped Latika escape and allows himself to be killed in a bathtub full of money after shooting and killing Javed. Salim's last words are "God is great." Later that night, Jamal and Latika meet at the railway station and they share a kiss. It is then revealed that the correct answer to the opening question is: D) it is written, or implying that it is destiny. In a scene reminiscent of many Bollywood musicals, they then dance, along with dozens of bystanders and even the juvenile versions of themselves, in the train station during the end credits.
------------>
those who haven't seen the movie yet, do watch... it's really something a must see and you'll know they deserve their academy nod...
personally speaking, everything that contains an older brother-younger brother story fascinates me...htough Salim's been "rough" and "hard" to his younger brother Jamal, you could still see the enormous love and concern he has to his sibling. i kinda wish older brothers will also have that character of Salim..(chuckles...im the youngest of my two older brothers, Christian and Chris John..hehehe)
when i watch the movie first with my friend Noah, i still can picture the seemingly-not-so-interested when Jamal was tortured by what to appear are policemen or goons...but at the end of the film, i was so amazed by what i see on my friend's face whom doesn'y likes english or foreign movies so much...well i just thought he even loved it, how much more to me...(smiles)..
hhmmmm..the movie also shows that it doesn't take a genius to answer life's hard realities...Jamal for instance won his way to twenty million rupees..weeehhhh...it just proves, experience most oftenly is the best teacher...agree?
and who caould resist this cute child (little jamal) below? and i can't forget how people reacted on him when he jumped on feces..hahah (lol)
Po?hmmm passing by..

i've been busy these past few days...from commitments to studies to organizations to a heck of other stuffs..wheww...
but to keep me at pace of the whirlwind demands present around me, i always find time to relax if you could really call it as "relaxing" habit to cool down my nerves...
hmmmm...well, sort of revealing my favorite pastime 'ere. i just finished reading some books...pocketbooks actually whom are given to me by friend, drew...lolz after a day of different activities lying on my bed waiting for my sleeping time, i always got hooked on reading...too bad after hours of reading, my eyes started to ache and become teary..:( but still my mind dosen't seem to cooperate,..so i end up picking another set of reading materials - magz, romance books, read my unread text messages, etc., to wait for my sleeping time (the time i could really go to sleep). Finally, when clock strikes 4:45 am, at last i can close my eyes by then...
amazing but, is that really a "sleep" or somethin' that i still would wake up at around 9 am to attend school...thank God, major subjects aren't that demanding this finals period.
tomorrow, im gonna be reading NEW MOON by Stephenie Meyer, the sequel to Twilight...hmmmm thanks to a friend who lent me the book...she saves the night! :-)☻ awtzz gonna tell you later bout the book, huh..
hope i could reaLLY post here soonest..i missed blogging..
oh, it's finals na pala...good luck to my graduating buddies..break a leg on your thesis presentation! you can do it i know, huh, kring.jonas.che.marn.!hmmmp
and to my uzzap buddies, i'll be back chatting with you so so soon...i will recover from this..hehehe..only reading pacifies me to sleep at the moment..chuckles ^_^
you take care, the rugprince is still kickin' some ass!

A lovely Japanese OST of Bleach you'll love! Plus Katorpehan and the like this love month :-)

Hi there! I've just gotten back from Boston (the northernmost town in Davao Oriental). The travel took seven (7) hours of exhausting bumpy ride. Whew...Anyways, here is the second edition of the Feb-Ibig Series only here on the rugprince!♥♥♥
sunao na uta ga utaenai
I can't sing a song with honest lyrics
ka zaritsuketeshimau kara
because I always end up sugar coating the words
itsu kara konna ni raku ni jibun
when did someone as laid-back as me
mamoru koto wo oboeta no?
realize she had something worth protecting?
*
ikinai SKY CHORD
Don't leave me, SKY CHORD
mukashi
you would have stayed here back then, yeah yeah...
nakushita SKY CHORD
I've lost you, SKY CHORD
dare no sei demo naku jibun
it's not anyone's fault, but...
kitto otona ni naru koto nanka yori
I know there are things more important to me
taisetsu na mono ga aru no
than becoming an adult
kitto sore wo mitsukerannai mama
but I'll be growing up the whole time
otona ni natte yukun da
I'm trying to figure what they are.
zutto kono mama ja irenaitte
You say we can't stay like this forever?
wakatteru yo, aruki dase.
I know...so let's take that first step.
-♥-♥-♥-
I just happened to fell in love with that OST of the animated series, BLEACH...well kinda striking the first verse..uggghhh it stike to the heart (at least for me, so do you too?)
I can also remember the lyrics of the song Obvious by Westlife which goes like this...
"I've made it obvious
Done everything but sing it
(I've crushed on you so long, but on and on you get me wrong)
I'm not so good with words
And since you never notice
The way that we belong
I'll say it in a love song."
Ouch...whew (torpe din kasi ako huhu)
"Pasensya na kung hindi ako nagsasalita...Hindi ko kayang sabihin ang Aking nadarama" - torpedo by Eraserheads
Torpe (n.): Filipino noun meaning (1) shy; (2) gutless; (3) wallflower; usu. referring to males. (credits to Lionel Zivan S. Valdellon)
Hmmmm...Is there really a substantial reason why a guy would choose to hide his feeling of love twards a girl? Others would disagree, but many would also say, bakit hindi (why not?).
On the contrary, is being a torpe a condition of being a coward and being a man without balls as they say?
Perhaps, yes...'Coz, as I also believe, there is no harm in trying...It's better to love and not loved back than to not experience love at all, di po ba?
On the hand, how could you blame who believe curiosity kills the cat. Patay din pati lovelife nya, ganun?
But, can we actually call that a lovelife when the girl doesn't even know the real score of the guy's feelings towards her..?
Com'on guys, let's show the other sex our native "tapang" of Andres Bonifacio. We are brave gor Chrissake. Let's wear our balls! lolz
So, are we ready now to ask her on a date this love month? Hope you'll enjoy a romantic Valentine's Day!

Are you geared up already for the LOVE Month Fever? :-)

Well, who is not concerned of having his or her Valentina/Valentino? Anyone?
Bluntly speaking, almost everyone of us, especially the youngsters or young adults are busy (if not worried) looking for our respective dates this love month most specially on the fourteenth!
From late January as Christmas Holidays and New Year Celebration ended, the next thing in line to think about is no other than the coming of the L.O.V.E M.O.N.T.H!
For sure as the main event of the second month of the year fast approaches, everyone's already wondering what could be the best gift we could give to our loved ones - gf's slash bf's slash crushes slash dates a.k.a honey, baby, darling, sugar, sweety pie, daddy/mommy, tart, whatever term of endearment you guys used to call your loved one!
Hmmmmm...Maybe your thinking that what you have already given last year's Valentine's Day should be doubled or tripled in your own "romance meter" so that this would be more worth cherishing for you both.
My tip on you guys, as we have still ample time to prepare for the Hearts' Day, well you better plan every detail of your romantic date with your honey! Remember, cramming is not good! Hmmmm...a romantic dinner may do, but there are sure more ways to surprise your darling honey pie! :-) Try to research of the new trend of celebrating Valentine's Day through the web!
But what about those brethren of ours who are prone to a "COLD Valentines?" Well, I think we gotta be working double time in search (if we really wanna have a date this Feb. 14). But for those who consider valentine's as a simple day of showing our extraordinary LOVE to everyone - I'm referring to family, friends, officemates, etc., well, we can always enjoy group dates with the people whom are also dear to us...
I am hoping and wishing everyone (including my self) that we will all have a memorable and LOVE-FILLED season of hearts!
Till here, and watch out for further Valentine tips and notes coming to the rugprince blogspot soon!
Ta ta!
I love you guys!

Ghost Town Move...The Unfinished Business on Earth

Only a life lived for others is worth living- Albert Einstein
Plot
A misanthropic dentist, Bertram Pincus, (Ricky Gervais) gains the ability to communicate with ghosts after a near death experience in which he dies for approximately seven minutes during a colonoscopy and is then miraculously revived. Ghosts begin to pester him, particularly Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) who wants him to break up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni). This proves rather hard, as Bertram has snubbed Gwen on many an occasion, including when he closes the elevator on her and gets her in trouble with the super. However, since he displays his dental expertise to her one day in the elevator, she recruits him to look at a mummy's teeth, and Pincus redeems himself in Gwen's eyes when he identifies the cause of the Pharaoh's death. She invites him to dinner along with her fiancée Richard (Billy Campbell), whom Frank says is after her money but seems to Pincus like a nice man, as he is a human rights lawyer. Pincus gets to know Gwen more and finds himself falling in love with her. He mystifies her when, out for drinks one day, he knows information about Frank, and Gwen reveals to them both that she had found out Frank had been cheating on her. Pincus ends up inadvertently breaking off her engagement to Richard, information he got out of Richard by drugging him with laughing gas. After that, Pincus vows never to interfere in her life again.
Frank doesn't understand why he is still on earth if he was supposed to break up Richard and Gwen. Gwen, not being engaged to Richard any longer, says yes to a proposal that would send her to the Valley of Kings for six months. As a going away present, Pincus gets her a new key chain, which she had before mentioned she desperately needed. But when he mistakenly reveals more information about Frank only Gwen knows, she demands the truth, and Pincus tells her the whole story with ghosts. Gwen doesn't believe him and demands to know what Frank's worst nightmare was. Frank tells Pincus a fake nightmare, and Gwen, thinking Pincus is toying with her, walks away. Frank tells Pincus he doesn't want Gwen to be with another selfish person.
Back at the office, Pincus asks a fellow dentist (Aasif Mandvi) for medication that will help him forget Gwen. Pincus decides that he will help the ghosts. He helps almost all of them, and finds out that one of the ghosts is an especially annoying patient's deceased husband.
While helping these ghosts, Pincus discovers that the reason why Frank can't leave is that Gwen hasn't let go of him. He rushes to the exhibition at the Met, only for Gwen to blow him off. She asks him to ask Frank why she wasn't enough for him, and Frank says he's sorry, which Pincus tells Gwen. Gwen is incredulous that after his infidelity, all Frank would have to say was 'sorry' and thinks that Pincus is making it all up. He rushes after her and while trying to persuade her to believe him, gets hit by a bus. Pincus, now a ghost, watches with Frank. Gwen is crying over Pincus, then Richard comes and tries to revive him. Seeing how distraught Gwen is, Frank gives him 'some advice' in case he is resuscitated. After talking to Pincus, Frank is then finally allowed to leave.
Pincus wakes up alive in the hospital. He recovers and goes back to work and meets Gwen, who needs dental work. Pincus tells Gwen the real nightmare, which was advice Frank told him, and then assures her 'he found his way home.' The movie ends with Gwen saying 'it hurts when I smile,' to which Pincus replies 'I can fix that for you.'
I just like the message underlying this movie...I finished it watching early last night when I almost closed the Windows Media Player and turn off the monitor screen when one of my best buddies Jonas told me that the movie was good and my other boardmates agreed that it has a a great sense...So I continued the flick though I find my self yawning at times (pagod din ako galing sa meeting ng Club Tikod)...
Then as the story progressed on, hmmmm I am kinda hooked to the movie so I gained the guts to finish it...
I was touched by the quotation by Einstein which states Only a life lived for others is worth living...It's just then I realized that this life of mine is somehow worth living as I don't live this life for my self alone but with my own little ways, I have shared this piece of my life to my students at KLRC and Club Tikod Computer Tutorials...
This message should make us more optimistic to live our life in a way that in the end of the day, we could say "the days is done" and we've nothing to regret on things we have failed to accomplish! Carpi diem everyone!

5...4...3...2...1...Hapi nEw Year!
New new year's resoutions to live by???...hopefully
New struggles???..They're inevitable actually...
New successes and achievements???..A whole lot more is in store...That's for sure...
New experiences???This only means we'll be learning many things in this life...
Whatever things will come our way this year, Godwillingly I know, we will endure and survive these lamas sa kinabuhi (spices of life)...knowing the Global Financial Crisis at hand, but I am sure together, we will hurdle our way to lead a better and more wonderful life.
It's still too early to tell that we are better today than what we are yesterday but we always have the power to make ourselves twice or even tenfold times way better than the previous year.
Hope this year of the earth ox will bring us not only good things in our life but a more meaningful life for all of us...
HAPPY NEW YEAR beloved...

Little by little, I grow up...And like in a slow motion, everybody else does mature...
Twenty o' eight...Few days from now will be gone...It's just pretty normal for me to think quite sad coz I Know, this year has definitely a BIG part of dam'z's little existence on this planet - in his little world of the RUGPRINCE.
Tonight, while I am sitting in my room typing this article, so many thoughts are playing and a thousand more images are flashing like scenes in movies.
The year 2008 entered at a very loud pace, like the usual new year that comes...Yet like a stereotype brand new year that comes, 2008 brought some unfinished businesses of the previous year (2007). But I think it's pretty normal again, though they're some sort of a pain in the heart...And mind.
As this year progresses, I have encountered many many problems...So many that to the extent, I already forgot them. God has already taken my dearest lola Tilde to join him last August...Out of the so many trials, I thank the people around whose presence have lightened my personal burdens.
On the lighter note, 2008 has also been a year of accomplishments...To note that I personally reached the summit of the Philippine's tallest terra firma - Mt. Apo. More importantly, I myself have gained new friendships and has tightened bonds of relationships to the people around me.
This year also has given me a chance to be a gift to others, my fellows who are more in need to my time and presence. I am very happy to be at service to my computer tutorial class every saturday @ KLRC, Inc. My heart jumps in honor to have been able to share my skills and talents with the kids @ HAPPY FISH KIDS' LEARNING and RECREATION CENTER in Sitio Taganilao, Tam-isan, Mati, Davao Oriental. And it's also a great privilege to be the chief to my beloved Club Tikod.
Mistakes are also more evitable as I am now have a better grip of my words and actions. If there are still awful things I continue do and say, my sincerest apologies...
I have also set my feet on new places this year. I have been to the cool and beautiful Bukidnon, the scenic Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, Waniban Island.
I also hope that this year, I have built a stronger relationship with PARENG JESUS. Love u Pre! Thanks for everything.
With the experiences and the lessons taught this year.., tonight I have just realized, I am growing up no matter how I would fight the mere fact that I am no longer the myself I previously knew...Only, I assure my self, that I have just become better not only for my own sake but most of all, towards others...
Long live my self! I love you dam'z..
Hope that everybody else has also realized that we are also were meant to be good children of God Almighty.

When I was there at the majestic Mount Apo

Around 6 pm, nilindol kami sa Gudi-gudi...(may earthquake) kulba my heart lol:-)
October 24, 2008 Day3 This day, we will be starting to go real uphill...first to the BOULDERS, then to CRATER, and then to PEAK.
From here on, rocks (small and big..and real huge rocks) are all over the place called BOULDERS. Good spot for sight-seeing and picture taking.
Sometimes or should I say most of the times, you've got to crawl and seek for grip on the rocks...well that was some kind of a "wonderful" encounter with the creatures called rocks UPCLOSE and PERSONAL??? heheheAnd fogs are everywhere too. Feels like heaven...haha..grrrrrrrr...cold...

And the mountain is also smoking...with sulfur...hmmmpfff smells awful sometimes...but it was good to see a real source of Sulfur...

October 25, 2008 Day4 On this day, we visited Lake Venado..Amazing...amazing really nice lake..whew...
