Ghost Town Move...The Unfinished Business on Earth

Only a life lived for others is worth living
- Albert Einstein

Plot

A misanthropic dentist, Bertram Pincus, (Ricky Gervais) gains the ability to communicate with ghosts after a near death experience in which he dies for approximately seven minutes during a colonoscopy and is then miraculously revived. Ghosts begin to pester him, particularly Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) who wants him to break up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni). This proves rather hard, as Bertram has snubbed Gwen on many an occasion, including when he closes the elevator on her and gets her in trouble with the super. However, since he displays his dental expertise to her one day in the elevator, she recruits him to look at a mummy's teeth, and Pincus redeems himself in Gwen's eyes when he identifies the cause of the Pharaoh's death. She invites him to dinner along with her fiancée Richard (Billy Campbell), whom Frank says is after her money but seems to Pincus like a nice man, as he is a human rights lawyer. Pincus gets to know Gwen more and finds himself falling in love with her. He mystifies her when, out for drinks one day, he knows information about Frank, and Gwen reveals to them both that she had found out Frank had been cheating on her. Pincus ends up inadvertently breaking off her engagement to Richard, information he got out of Richard by drugging him with laughing gas. After that, Pincus vows never to interfere in her life again.

Frank doesn't understand why he is still on earth if he was supposed to break up Richard and Gwen. Gwen, not being engaged to Richard any longer, says yes to a proposal that would send her to the Valley of Kings for six months. As a going away present, Pincus gets her a new key chain, which she had before mentioned she desperately needed. But when he mistakenly reveals more information about Frank only Gwen knows, she demands the truth, and Pincus tells her the whole story with ghosts. Gwen doesn't believe him and demands to know what Frank's worst nightmare was. Frank tells Pincus a fake nightmare, and Gwen, thinking Pincus is toying with her, walks away. Frank tells Pincus he doesn't want Gwen to be with another selfish person.

Back at the office, Pincus asks a fellow dentist (Aasif Mandvi) for medication that will help him forget Gwen. Pincus decides that he will help the ghosts. He helps almost all of them, and finds out that one of the ghosts is an especially annoying patient's deceased husband.

While helping these ghosts, Pincus discovers that the reason why Frank can't leave is that Gwen hasn't let go of him. He rushes to the exhibition at the Met, only for Gwen to blow him off. She asks him to ask Frank why she wasn't enough for him, and Frank says he's sorry, which Pincus tells Gwen. Gwen is incredulous that after his infidelity, all Frank would have to say was 'sorry' and thinks that Pincus is making it all up. He rushes after her and while trying to persuade her to believe him, gets hit by a bus. Pincus, now a ghost, watches with Frank. Gwen is crying over Pincus, then Richard comes and tries to revive him. Seeing how distraught Gwen is, Frank gives him 'some advice' in case he is resuscitated. After talking to Pincus, Frank is then finally allowed to leave.

Pincus wakes up alive in the hospital. He recovers and goes back to work and meets Gwen, who needs dental work. Pincus tells Gwen the real nightmare, which was advice Frank told him, and then assures her 'he found his way home.' The movie ends with Gwen saying 'it hurts when I smile,' to which Pincus replies 'I can fix that for you.'

I just like the message underlying this movie...I finished it watching early last night when I almost closed the Windows Media Player and turn off the monitor screen when one of my best buddies Jonas told me that the movie was good and my other boardmates agreed that it has a a great sense...So I continued the flick though I find my self yawning at times (pagod din ako galing sa meeting ng Club Tikod)...

Then as the story progressed on, hmmmm I am kinda hooked to the movie so I gained the guts to finish it...

I was touched by the quotation by Einstein which states Only a life lived for others is worth living...It's just then I realized that this life of mine is somehow worth living as I don't live this life for my self alone but with my own little ways, I have shared this piece of my life to my students at KLRC and Club Tikod Computer Tutorials...

This message should make us more optimistic to live our life in a way that in the end of the day, we could say "the days is done" and we've nothing to regret on things we have failed to accomplish! Carpi diem everyone!

5...4...3...2...1...Hapi nEw Year!

Another year is at hand...

New new year's resoutions to live by???...hopefully

New struggles???..They're inevitable actually...

New successes and achievements???..A whole lot more is in store...That's for sure...

New experiences???This only means we'll be learning many things in this life...

Whatever things will come our way this year, Godwillingly I know, we will endure and survive these lamas sa kinabuhi (spices of life)...knowing the Global Financial Crisis at hand, but I am sure together, we will hurdle our way to lead a better and more wonderful life.

It's still too early to tell that we are better today than what we are yesterday but we always have the power to make ourselves twice or even tenfold times way better than the previous year.

Hope this year of the earth ox will bring us not only good things in our life but a more meaningful life for all of us...

HAPPY NEW YEAR beloved...

Little by little, I grow up...And like in a slow motion, everybody else does mature...

2008 - a very remarkable year in my life. And now it has come to the point that we would once again flip our calendars to give way for another brand new year....2009.

Twenty o' eight...Few days from now will be gone...It's just pretty normal for me to think quite sad coz I Know, this year has definitely a BIG part of dam'z's little existence on this planet - in his little world of the RUGPRINCE.

Tonight, while I am sitting in my room typing this article, so many thoughts are playing and a thousand more images are flashing like scenes in movies.

The year 2008 entered at a very loud pace, like the usual new year that comes...Yet like a stereotype brand new year that comes, 2008 brought some unfinished businesses of the previous year (2007). But I think it's pretty normal again, though they're some sort of a pain in the heart...And mind.

As this year progresses, I have encountered many many problems...So many that to the extent, I already forgot them. God has already taken my dearest lola Tilde to join him last August...Out of the so many trials, I thank the people around whose presence have lightened my personal burdens.

On the lighter note, 2008 has also been a year of accomplishments...To note that I personally reached the summit of the Philippine's tallest terra firma - Mt. Apo. More importantly, I myself have gained new friendships and has tightened bonds of relationships to the people around me.

This year also has given me a chance to be a gift to others, my fellows who are more in need to my time and presence. I am very happy to be at service to my computer tutorial class every saturday @ KLRC, Inc. My heart jumps in honor to have been able to share my skills and talents with the kids @ HAPPY FISH KIDS' LEARNING and RECREATION CENTER in Sitio Taganilao, Tam-isan, Mati, Davao Oriental. And it's also a great privilege to be the chief to my beloved Club Tikod.

Mistakes are also more evitable as I am now have a better grip of my words and actions. If there are still awful things I continue do and say, my sincerest apologies...

I have also set my feet on new places this year. I have been to the cool and beautiful Bukidnon, the scenic Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, Waniban Island.

I also hope that this year, I have built a stronger relationship with PARENG JESUS. Love u Pre! Thanks for everything.

With the experiences and the lessons taught this year.., tonight I have just realized, I am growing up no matter how I would fight the mere fact that I am no longer the myself I previously knew...Only, I assure my self, that I have just become better not only for my own sake but most of all, towards others...

Long live my self! I love you dam'z..

Hope that everybody else has also realized that we are also were meant to be good children of God Almighty.

When I was there at the majestic Mount Apo

CONQUERING MT. APO
(Manghinlo ta kay APO 2008)

I was as excited to descend from the summit as I was about to climb...along with the story and experiences with me I am going to tell my friends and family...

October 22, 2008...Day 1 Club Tikod (my campus-based mountaineering society in DOSCST) arrived at assembly area-NCCC Mall Davao. And at around 9 am, we pushed for Digos City for registration. After lunch, we forwarded to Barangay Kapatagan, our jump-off area for the Campsite1.

And at around 2 pm, we finally reached the jump-off area. Though rainshowers welcomed the group along with our hosts AMOSS and HADAMS, I was also so much eager to start the journey.

And at around 5 pm, we arriveds at Campsite1....Overnight rest...zzzZZZZZ...
October 23, 2008 Day2 Off to Gudi-gudi Forest...campsite2. Kinda excited...

Around 6 pm, nilindol kami sa Gudi-gudi...(may earthquake) kulba my heart lol:-)

October 24, 2008 Day3 This day, we will be starting to go real uphill...first to the BOULDERS, then to CRATER, and then to PEAK.
From here on, rocks (small and big..and real huge rocks) are all over the place called BOULDERS. Good spot for sight-seeing and picture taking.

Sometimes or should I say most of the times, you've got to crawl and seek for grip on the rocks...well that was some kind of a "wonderful" encounter with the creatures called rocks UPCLOSE and PERSONAL??? hehehe

And fogs are everywhere too. Feels like heaven...haha..grrrrrrrr...cold...

And the mountain is also smoking...with sulfur...hmmmpfff smells awful sometimes...but it was good to see a real source of Sulfur...

At around 3 pm, we finally reached the Peak of the tallest mountain in the Philippines...really really PROUD of myself and of the experience...kaya ko pala..mountaineer talaga pala ako...

Ladies and gentlemen, the crater of our very own Mt. Apo...

October 25, 2008 Day4 On this day, we visited Lake Venado..Amazing...amazing really nice lake..whew...

October 26, 2008 Day 5 We are now going todescend and return to Digos City...bringing along our happy memories of our encounter with nature...Home Sweet home...but wait we have also dropped by the CENTURY TREE...Hope our trees would really reach century years..

HAHAHA_summer '07_oh oh oh wo oh oh

...lab effect...

as the sun goes up in the morning

the horizon bursts its majestic light

and the day awaits another traveler

to consume time and savor the moment...

as he go in his journey

people, too many, too less

will he meet and may know

but no matter what, he will go

but with him in his travel

is the memory of friendship

friendship that has been built

built with strength of the cornerstone unwithered

Have your day more colorful

Having a real friend (or friendS, sounds better to the ears) is really an inspiring life to be lived with. You wake up each morning with a smile on your face and the sweet idea that you will greet them whenever you'll meet them or send them your greetings through the phone.

Then, as the day goes on and you will entertain your daily routines of life, you know that there is someone who is thinking of you too despite the busy life he is having.

Well, having friends jazzes up our life. They made our laughters crunchier, our tears more memorable, our burdens lighter, and our life more meaningful.

So, people out there, especially to the loner types, it's not bad to win a friendly relationship with someone. Maybe your seatmate in your class, a neighbor, or even someone that you will meet on the road. Smile, greet 'em good day and it's a nice start to build friendship.

Knowing that he is just around the corner, or a text away, you will surely have a more colorful day.

>>>go on, take the first move!!!
